By the end of May 2019, I was walking around Wicker Park, a hipster neighbourhood located in Chicago. Suddenly, I saw an old library called “Myopic Books”. I was amazed by that library and I spent all the afternoon having a gander at some scientific books. I found “It takes a Genome” by Greg Gibson but at that moment, I didn’t know it would be the most amazing book I’ve ever read.
During my studies in Biotechnology, I became very curious with the concept of Personalized medicine and Precision medicine, which I believe they are the future of sciences. With this book, the reader can learn how modern culture and environment affect humanity and make us suffer from diseases such as cancer or Alzheimer.
Knowing the genotype of the patient, scientists can apply a personalized treatment, avoiding adverse effects and making their lives longer without suffering. The three premises would be: Give the right dose of the right drug to the right patient.
Definitively, I recommend this book to anyone interested in genetics and anyone that wants to know how our modern life is causing diseases to humanity.
